The Creative Way Projects Exchange

Project Exchange 2

The Creative Way Projects Exchange series takes up key policy issues at the centre of current debates in the arena of education, skills and creative business, and seeks to identify practical measures which we can action now to accelerate progress and change.  Each round table event brings together key representatives from public policy agencies, industry and education.

Projects Exchange 2: New University Challenges - innovating for change

Our second Projects Exchange, held on 3 February 2010 at the Work Foundation, SW1, was chaired by Sir David Melville with an expert panel comprising Will Hutton (Executive Vice-Chair, The Work  Foundation), Anna Fazackerley (Head of Education, Arts & Culture Units, Policy Exchange) and Andy Powell (Chief Executive, Edge)

This second event of the series looked at the implications for universities and colleges of constrained public funding and a world in which businesses and students will almost certainly be asked to contribute more.

Against this challenging background, the panel discussed how universities might best deliver the greatest possible intellectual and economic return to their multiple stakeholders.

The panel considered the potential for Thames Gateway institutions to build on their successful track record of innovation and collaboration, to identify areas where new forms of collaboration – perhaps at departmental or subject level – might stimulate innovation in delivery models to broaden access opportunities, enhance the student learning experience and deliver the skills and know-how that business requires.

The focus was on the practical actions required to implement innovations in delivery and new models of collaboration.

The session drew on Thames Gateway partners’ experience of collaborative developments, particularly in the creative industries’ sector where Creative Way members have successfully piloted a range of innovative initiatives.
