The Level 4 Artist/Musician Development course
is based around the further development and
management of the artistic/musician brand allied to a
deeper contextual understanding. It is assessed via a
Rockschool/ATM Diploma.
The structure of the Level 4 course is outlined below:
A. ASSESSMENT
To assess the process of deconstructing and rebuilding
the artist/musician brand (individual or ensemble) in
terms of theoretical analysis, contextual relationships,
repertoire, image, fanbase/client development,
marketing and promotion, merchandise etc. This
process will be done individually and in consultation
with peers, tutors and industry representatives.
B. DEVELOPMENT
To assess the actions instigated as a result of the
Assessment process. These will generate the principal
artefacts of the development process such as a set of
recorded repertoire (final or demo), a video of live
performances, evidence of a tour, a set of branded
merchandise, an artist/musician website, evidence
of contracts with third parties (e.
g. management,
publishing etc.), photo-shoot, promotional video, an
instrumental skills qualification etc.
C. PRESENTATION
To showcase of the results of the Development
process via a public show/presentation together with
in depth research into reactions to the showcase.
D. RE-EVALUATION
Based on the outcomes of the research, to re-evaluate
the artist/musician brand in preparation for the next

Artist/Musician Development courses require no formal qualifications although musicians should have a developed sense of their artistic or musical profile. The main criteria are that the musician must have a clear focus on their career and the areas it may develop in. A good understanding their music and its place within the UK market will be required and a willingness to engage in the full nature of the courses is essential APPLICATION & INTERVIEW You can apply for Artist/Musician Development courses through the online application form on the Access to Music website. Musicians who apply will be asked to an audition/ interview where they will have to perform, or demonstrate, their music as well as contextualising their artist brand and repertoire.
A Progression Agreement is a formal arrangement between two or more education providers. It spells out what a learner needs to do to be considered for a place on a named programme of study. Progression Agreements may vary in the conditions they specify but they all aim to give guaranteed pathways into higher education.
